CRIMEBRIEFS

-

On Friday April 23 just after midnight, a WhatsApp message reported barking in the area of Horndean Street. A MultiSecurity response officer assigned to inspect reported he could hear the dogs barking but could not see any suspicious activity in the area.

On Saturday April 24, just after 6am, it was reported, again on the WhatsApp group, that water could be heard pouring from a home in Strand Street. The response officer who attended the scene reported that copper pipes had been stolen on site. After an inspection of the site no case was opened as the residents of the property were unsure how many metres of pipe had been stolen. It was later determined that 10 to 15m of pipe had been stolen, and a case was then opened with the SAPS.

At 11.38 on the same morning a report was received from the Willow Caravan Park on the WhatsApp group that two pillowscases full of items had been found between the canoes and the Moth Hall. MultiSecurity officers then established the two pillows were hidden under a trailer at the rowing club and Ski Boat Club. A case was opened with the SAPS. An attempted breakin was reported just after 2pm on Saturday at Miles Street. The bedroom window burglar bars were bent but no access was gained. The perpetrator used a braai fork to bend the burglar bars and the fork was found lying on the bedroom floor. A cellphone was missing. A case was opened at the SAPS. Then, at 3.04pm a robbery was reported. Security officers and SAPS attended the scene and were informed that the occupants were sitting in the lounge when, unnoticed, a suspect had walked in and stolen a wallet. The occupants only noticed this had occurred when they found the wallet lying outside with a R100 note that had been in it missing. A case was opened with SAPS.

On Thursday April 29 at 7.52am a call was received from a reported a break-in at a home in Beach Road. The break-in had occurred in an unprotected back room where the glass had been removed from the window and burglar bar strip removed. As nothing appeared to have been stolen, no case was opened with the SAPS.

At 7.26pm in the area of Hill Street and Atherstone, barking dogs were reported. After inspection by security officers it was reported back that no suspicious activity had been found.

Also on Thursday, at Sunningdale Road at 9.41pm an alarm was received that there had been someone at the premises who had fled into the bushes across the road –a male wearing a white shirt. After checking the area, no trace of the perpetrator was found.

On Friday April 30 at 10.25am the control room received a message on the WhatsApp group that a thief was stealing copper pipes in High Street. The thief then ran off towards the graveyard. He was wearing a yellow hat and had dreadlocks. SAPS agreed to patrol the area to see if they could find the suspect.

At 4.03am on Saturday May 1 a tenant in Kivido Road, Station Hill, phoned in and reported that there was a suspect inside the house. The phone then cut off and MultiSecurity officers were on the scene just three minutes later at 4.06am. Having inspected the property, MultiSecurity officers reported they did not see anything wrong, that everything appeared in order and there was no trace of anyone suspicious at the premises.

Then, at 4.59am an alarm from premises in George Street was raised. It was established robbers had entered by the kitchen door, but there were not signs of force. A TV and laptop were taken, and a case was opened with SAPS. The alarm was not armed and the breakin could have happened at any time between 1am and the time the alarm was armed at 4.53am.
