The winners of the raffle for a trolley dash at Rosehill SUPERSPAR jointly held by El Shaddai Christian Academy, Kowie Foundation School and Port Alfred High School generously donated their winnings to Retreat to Eden animal sanctuary.

Teacher Marlene Slade’s name was drawn as the winner after she purchased an entire sheet for the raffle.

Her husband Stephen was the runner for the trolley dash and collected a whopping R3,700 worth of pet food as well as some flour and maize during his 60 second dash.

An overjoyed Johann Wilhelm of Retreat to Eden was at SUPERSPAR to accept their generous donation.

The principals of the three schools, Rene Payne (El Shaddai Christian Academy), Nicola Nel (Kowie Foundation School) and Nigel Adams (Port Alfred High School) extended their gratitude to the community.

In a joint statement they said: “It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. In our corner of the world, we have a town of terrific people who continually support our ongoing efforts to give of our best in terms of educating our community’s children.

“We would like to, through the Talk of the Town, extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who bought trolley dash raffle tickets.

“Thanks to you, about R40,000 has been raised and will be split between the schools and invested in specific projects that will benefit the learners at each school.

“Our congratulations go out to our trolley dash raffle winner, Marlene Slade and her husband Stephen who donated all their items to Retreat to Eden animal sanctuary.

“A very sincere thank you is also extended to Lesley and Craig Theunissen and their Rosehill SUPERSPAR team for once again sponsoring this awesome prize. We would also like to thank the Rosehill Mall management team for allowing us to sell tickets over the weekends.

“Finally, it would be remiss not to also thank our raffle coordinators, Adele Steck, Kathryn Stanford and Laura Guest, whose tireless efforts added to the success of this fundraiser.”
