Township residents lives in danger due to broken lights

- DA PR COUNCILLOR, PHIL KANI

Winter is approaching, yet more than three lights in various streets in Ekuphumleni township are dysfunctional.

Residents are forced to live in the dark.

I have reported the matter on more than three occasions yet all I receive is the empty promise of: “It will get fixed”.

The people affected live in fear as they cannot visit their neighbours and/or relatives, let alone attend religious gatherings that are held in the evenings.

People are unable to go to spaza shops after dark due to fear of being mugged by thugs lurking in the area.

It is more than evident that the people of Ekuphumleni township are not taken seriously by our municipality.

Even though Ndlambe prides itself as being a “caring municipality”, it has demonstrated to care less about the residents of Ekuphumleni.

I urge Ndlambe to put its residents and ratepayers first.

Ndlambe Municipality needs to go back to basics.

The municipality needs to show a sense of urgency, be efficient and take note of how other municipalities resolve local issues in time and effectively.

I urge Ndlambe to take notes from the DA-run

Kouga Municipality on how basic services are delivered to its residents.

Where the DA governs we recognise that the key role of government is to provide services to the people.

Safety is a basic human right that should be enjoyed by Ekuphumleni residents, yet Ndlambe Municipality continues to deprive the residents of it.

It is for this reason that I will not rest until this issue is resolved. I will use all the resources and avenues at my disposal to make sure Ekuphumleni residents no longer live in the dark.
