LADIES’ RESULTS

January 18

Playing in very challenging, gale force at times, easterlies and westerlies, 32 ladies played in a Pick ‘n Pay 3 Ball Alliance : one to count on hole 1, two to count on hole 2, three to count on hole 3 and repeating for the rest of the holes.

1st place was won by Biddy Collings, Ellen Fischer and Maureen McGarvie on 73 points. 2nd place was won by Angela Trollip, Glynnis Renecle and Margie Reid on 71 points who counted out 3rd-placed Des Derda, Jane Bladen and Shirley Heny, who also scored 71 points. Nearest the pins were won by Angela Trollip on the 6th (sponsored by Kekkel en Kraai), Yvonne Hill on the 8th (sponsored by the ladies section), Mel Kempe on the 11th (sponsored by Top Carpets) and by DonnePiguet, nearest for 2 on the 13th* (sponsored by The Firm).

The Longest Drive competition on Hole 2 was won by Angela Trollip in the 0-21 handicaps division and the winner in the 22-onwards division was Jan Wale. Yvonne Hill had the only two club of the afternoon on the 8th. The competition on February 1 will be a WGSA Medal and Putting with a draw for partners.

PORT ALFRED MIXED RESULTS

January 22

The 10 golfers who took part in Saturday morning’s PAM Competition had to contend with a howling easterly wind.

The winners on 78 points (73+5) were Dave Kirk, Launa Kirk and Biddy Collings. Runners-up on 76 points were Glynnis Renecle, Derek Sinclair, Margie Reid and Brian Reid. The final three players, Jude Lello, Glen Lello and Neal Shaw, took the longest walk.

There were no two-clubs but Launa Kirk was nearest the pin on the 8th to win a bottle of wine from Prestons and Dave Kirk had the best nett of the morning with 76 nett and won the Fishaways voucher.

KGB RESULTS

Tuesday January 18: A sunny morning with a threat of a strong easterly wind saw 37 entrants drawn in three 3-balls and seven 4-balls to test themselves in a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count format.

Initially cool and heating up as the wind strengthened, Tim Anderson, Mike Stadler, Tom Tagg and Dave Curran posted 80 points and being the only covey to get to the eighties fully deserved their first place finish. Bryan Robinson, Derick van Harmelen and Nick Oosthuizen were narrowly behind in second spot with 79 (74+5) points.

The Hamer en Sukkel was closely contested but ended up being shared by the other two 3-balls in the field comprising Guy Cash, Andy Manson and Richard Laing along with Bob Shaw, Steve Kennedy and Donald McGarvie, both coveys securing 72 (67+5) points.

Birdies on the par threes were not in short supply as Nick Oosthuizen on the 8th hole, Andy Manson and Tony Halse on the 6th, and Fanie Smit and Neil Loundar on the 11th all succeeded with 2-clubs.

The 2-club pool was carried over as it was tied by Fanie and Neil playing in separate coveys. Individual round of the morning went to a deserving Andy Manson with a 70 nett.

Friday January 21: Overcast skies saw 40 aspirant golfers enter into the draw and find themselves playing an almost standard Stableford Alliance 2-scores-tocount with the twist of a bonus point for a hole where three nett birdies in a covey earned a bonus point on the hole.

Arnie Schultz, Matt Chadwick, Peter Sinclair and Eric Segers compiled a solid 88 points to finish in first place.

Somewhat of a milestone, the average age of the winning covey was 81 years!

A longish whisker behind GabyHausmann, Peter Reed, Keith Rugg and Andy Stembridge were deserving of their second place with 86 points.

The Hamer en Sukkel transitioned from table to table until the final covey to come home comprising John Abbott, Eugene Erasmus, Jenny Ralph and Donald McGarvie posted 71 points to wrest the trophy from the trenches.

Keith Rugg birdied the par three 8th hole and both Mark Warren and Neil Loundar birdied the par three 6th hole. As Mark and Neil were in separate coveys the 2-club pool was carried over once more.

Good rounds worthy of mention went to Arnie Schultz, Gaby Hausmann, Mark Warren and Derek Sinclair all with 70 netts.
