RPAGC PAM April 9

The predicted rain did not materialise and 11 players took part in Saturday morning’s PAM competition.

On a count out and also scoring 79 points, the runners-up slot was taken by Henry Ellis, Biddy Collings, Mike Krige and Lindy Krige. The final place was taken by Heather van Harmelen, Kevin Maree, Margie Reid and Brian Reid who scored 77 points.

KGB WE Results: Tuesday April 5

Conditions were calm initially with a westerly wind that strengthened after 39 players were drawn in one 3-ball and nine 4balls to compete in a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count format.

Tony Halse, John Abbot, Henry Ellis and Donald McGarvie posted a respectable 85 points, considering the lack of run after the rainfall of the past week, to finish comfortable winners. Mark Warren, Tom Tagg, John Dell and Paul Fryer on 83 points were more than satisfied to find they had finished second.

The battle at the other end of the field was intense and three coveys consisting of Arnie Schultz, Steve Kennedy, Simon Cox and Peter Longhurst along with Len Bohnen, Keith Rugg, Brian Shirley and Andy Stembridge as well as Kevin Maree, Andy Manson, Barrie Brady and Eugene Erasmus all found themselves joint recipients of the Hamer & Sukkel at prize giving with returns of 76 points. John Dell and Don Thomson both birdied the par three 6th hole but Donald McGarvie with his birdie on the par three 13th hole ensured that his covey took the 2-club pool and all spoils on offer on the day for his covey.

Heinz Czepluch and Russell Warren both returned 69 netts for individual rounds of the day.

KGB WE Results: Friday April 8

Despite the elements 14 lost souls pitched at the club to eventually have 12 entrants teeing off in three 4-balls to compete in a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count format. Enjoying the fruits of rain and sodden clothing Henry Ellis, Keith Rugg, Russell Warren and John Abbott completed the round to finish first on 77 points. Andy Stembridge, FanieSmit, Andy Manson and Paul Fryer came in second on 71 points to join all those completing the round. Nick Oosthuizen, James Lobban, Andy Barnes and Peter Reed bailed early to end their suffering and be awarded the Hamer & Sukkel for not completing their round.

Henry Ellis with the only birdie on a par three, the 11th, took the rather meagre 2-club pool, due to the size of the field, for his covey. Given conditions no individual scores of note were recorded.

Alexandria Golf Club

Last Wednesday saw a good turnout playing a Betterball format, with James Nicoll and Pete Andrew winning on 45 points from Leon Naude and Owen Putzier, on 41 points. The Alliance was won by Rendo Nell, Dave Nicoll, James and Pete on a very good 89 points.

Further follow-up rain in the latter part of last week ensured that the course was looking in good shape, despite the greens being a bit slow due to the recent scarifying process. It was good to see the course busy on Saturday with a good number of social rounds being played during the morning. A strengthening breeze made conditions through the afternoon that much more challenging. Alvin Bowles had a very good back nine to finish on 35 individual points, whilst Trevor Hyson on 34 and Rendo Nell on 32, which included a 2-club at the 8th, completed the podium places.

The Alliance of Rendo, Nolin du Preez, Roger Walsh and Binky du Preez scored 79 points to win that competition. The Jackpot was shared by Nolin and Trevor. This Saturday, Easter Saturday, will be a “Chicken Day” at the Club and all are welcome to play. It will be a Betterball competition. Members are reminded of the Club AGM which will be held on Friday April 22 at 6pm. This will be followed by a Bring and Braai.
