Schools hockey to enjoy full calendar

- MATTHEW FIELD

After two years of shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the SA Schools Hockey Association (Sashoc) has released its national and regional calendar for this year.

Sashoc chairperson Wendell Domingo said that with the country returning to pre-pandemic levels after the lifting of the National State of Disaster, young players would once again have unrestricted access to sports fields.

“Sashoc is delighted to publish the dates for the 2022 season and look forward to successful events being hosted again around the country,” said Domingo.

“Excitement is building in the South African schools hockey community, and we are encouraged to see that the pandemic has done

little to curb young players’ enthusiasm to take up the sport.”

The organisation will stage national and regional events during June and July.

The national Under 18 competitions will be held from June 26 to July 1.

The U16 competitions will be held from July 8 to 13.

Regional competitions for the U12 to U18 categories will also be organised.

Domingo said Sashoc was excited to welcome players back onto the field from all over the country, and hoped they would once again be able to demonstrate

their talents and share in the passion for the sport.
