Alexandria Golf Club

Last Wednesday saw a good turnout playing an individual stableford and alliance, 2 to count, competitio­n. Willie Groenewald once again put in a tidy round to win on 35 points from Dave Nicoll and Likhona Fina on 34 points.

The Jackpot was won by Rendo Nell. The 4-ball of Dan Swart, Likhona Fina, Owen Putzier and Trevor Hyson came up trumps on 79 points, with Willie Groenewald, Dave Woods and Dave Nicoll coming in with 77 points.

Saturday saw a good field support the Sunshine Coast Hospice Golf Day in windy, cool conditions. Hospice is a wonderful organisati­on doing extraordin­ary work and they deserve every support.

Played as an individual stableford, Timothy

Mahlangu from the East London Golf Club shot a nett 74 to score a whopping 45 points off an 11 handicap to win the day. Second was Pete Andrew on 35 points and third Andre Macdonald on 34. Closest to the pin on the 3rd went to Jan Engelbrech­t and on the 8th to Albie Neeley. The men’s longest drive was won by Mike February and the women’s drive by Santjie Nell.

The monthly “Joker Draw” was conducted on Saturday evening, with Dave Woods winning the R 500 consolatio­n prize when his turned card did not reveal the elusive joker!

The Club

This Saturday the Club will host the Alexandria Christian Academy Golf Day with tee off times from 8am. Entry is R200 for the Individual Stableford competitio­n, with some good prizes on offer. Bookings can be made by phoning 046-653-0207. The Forest Lodge will hold their annual 4 ball American Scramble on Saturday May 21. Entry fees are R250 and will include a plate of potjiekos on finishing. Bookings are open for this too.

Members, please note that the Club AGM will take place at 6pm on Friday May 13. This will be followed by a Bring and Braai.
