Hockey action for primary schools
Last Thursday, schools participated for the first time in a modified hockey programme in Kenton, providing great sporting action for spectators. Participating schools were Alexandria Full Service School, Alexandria High School, Klipfontein Primary School, Kenton-on-Sea Primary, Ikamvalesizwe Combined School, Port Alfred High School and Port Alfred Primary School.
South African Hockey project manager, Gary Dolley said: “SA Hockey have aligned our modified hockey programme with the physical education curriculum in primary schools.
“Getting kids physically active by participating in inter class games, followed by inter grade games and then participating in a local neighbourhood league, underpins our growth strategy.”
Dolley said they had supplied modified equipment and had trained teachers to enable schools to participate within their communities. He described Alexandria Hub as a hive of activity, saying it had hosted a number of workshops and festivals.
“Thanks to Laetitia Golden, our volunteer coordinator, and Italtile Foundation for supporting the growth of modified hockey,” Dolley said.
Port Alfred Primary joined the programme for the first time.
