ALEXANDRIA GOLF CLUB

Last Wednesday turned into a beautiful afternoon and a good day for golf. Trevor Hyson was on song and came in with 34 Points to win the IPS competition from Owen Putzier and Mike McGrath on 31 points. The Alliance was won by Trevor, Jan Stark, James Nicoll and Pete Andrew while Owen won the Jackpot holes

Saturday saw the Club hosting a very successful Alexandria Methodist Church Golf Day. The weather played along and a good field were well looked after by the Church members. There were plenty of prizes and a real festive spirit prevailed with the prizegiving happening just after the wonderful win by the Boks over New Zealand, which had been screened on a big screen.

The winners of the Betterball Stableford competition on the day were Desmond Ntente and Zanenbula Qonono on a very good 43 points, this on a count out from Dave Nicoll and Leon Naude. Third were Allan Brotherton and Matt Jacobs on 42 points with Otto Nyendwana and Simphiwe Button, fourth. The Longest Drive was won by Klokke Engelbrecht, the Closest to the pin on the 8th, by Johan du Preez and closest to the pin on the 3/12th, by Pete Andrew. Thanks to all the players, the Alexandria Methodist Church and all the sponsors involved, for a very successful day.

KENTON GOLF BROTHERHOOD Tuesday 2nd August 2022

Extreme cold but a suggestion of sunshine saw 32 players enter the draw, to contest a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count on the even holes and 3-scores-to-count on the odd holes to test their resolve.

Neil Loundar, Dave Curran, Tony Halse and Martinus Scheepers posted an exceptional 102 points to finish clear of the field in first place. Not too far adrift Arnie Schultz, Peter Reed, John Crandon and Keith Rugg were worthy recipients of second position on 100 points.

Trailing in the wake Derick van Harmelen, Matt Chadwick, Michael Collins and Bob Shaw claimed the Hamer & Sukkel with 86 points.

Michael Collins reported a birdie on the par three 8th as did Mark Warren while Paul Fryer and John Crandon both birdied the par three 6th hole. The 2-club pool rolled over for a third time.

Tony Halse shot a solid individual 70 nett and Don Thomson was the player of the day with his 69 nett.

Friday 5th August 2022

A stunning winter's morn saw 38 players drawn in two 3-balls and eight 4-balls to compete in an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-tocount format, and in keeping with the KGB Winter Christmas lunch theme, all players off the red tees and strokes according to the Ladies card.

Don Thomson, Shaun Uys, Rick Hill and Heinz Czepluch sailed home to claim first place with 93 points. Tied in second place, but way adrift, were Leon Grobler, Brian Glanville, Keith Rugg and Paul Fryer together with Mark Warren, Andy Manson, Richard Laing and Brian Reid, both coveys on 85 points.

The 3-ball of Maureen McGarvie, John Crandon and Tom Tagg scraped together 77 (72+5) points to earn the honour of Hamer & Sukkel.

James Lobban and Don Thomson both birdied the par three 8th whilst Heinz Czepluch and Mike Kidson both birdied the par three 6th. Don and Heinz, playing in the same covey, captured the handsome carryover 2-club pool for their 4-ball.

The calm and warm conditions saw Rick Hill, Dave Curran and Brian Reid all returning individual 69 netts; Paul Fryer, Don Thomson and Pat Halse improving with individual 68 netts; and player of the day FanieSmit with a sound 67 nett.
