This week, we asked…

The Basic Education Law Amendment (Bela) bill proposes changes to the South African Schools Act and the Employment of Educators Act that would require public schools to have more than one language of instruction. If changes proposed in the Basic Education Law Amendment (Bela) bill go through, public schools would be required to have more than one language of instruction. What do you think the impact of this policy would be?

Aletta MacCallum: Good idea

Colleen Denniss: Total confusing ......... Total waste of money ......... As there will have to be double the amount of teachers as there would have to be 2 separate classes for each grade. Ridiculous.

Charline Middleditch: 50% fail rate

What was your weekend rain measurement? (19-21 August)

Peter Levey (Kenton) - 37mm

Gert Van DerMerwe (Forest Downs Port Alfred) - 23mm Andrew Norris Sturgess (Boesmans Caravan Park) - 32mm Morgan Alec Trauernicht (SunnysideGrahamstown) 15mm Luc Marechal (Grahamstown) - 12mm

Jane Wright (Bushmans) - 40mm

Robin Collett (Settlers Park, Port Alfred) - 23mm Robyn Bouwer (Cannon Rocks) - 36mm

What about the catchments? TOTT asked:

Feeding Settlers Dam west of Makhanda are the Palmiet and Kariega Rivers.

The 28mm last weekend at Pumba Reserve was not enough to get the Kariega River flowing, said Dale Howarth at Pumba. “And the Assegaai River is almost bone dry.”

Richard Moss of Mosslands said, “Had about 15mm from about Wednesday... Had one of the best Augusts in a few years, about 41mm so far for August. A long way from any river running though... It seems the rain over the weekend was very coastal.”

What is the best thing about your dog?
