SAPS, local businesses step in for Marselle family

Members of the South African Police Service stepped in to assist a family who lost all their belongings after a fire destroyed their home in Marselle recently.

They co-ordinated donations from Build It in Bushman’s, Kenton SPAR, Posh charity shop and Gift of Legacy.

Antoni said she was overwhelme­d with gratitude for the generosity of the police, business and community members from as far afield as Port Alfred and Alexandria.

Captain Tommie Parkinson, station commander of Kenton on Sea, applauded everyone who contribute­d food, clothes and building materials. He led a visit to Antoni and her three daughters last week.

George Petzer, chair of the newly elected Ndlambe Victim Empowermen­t Programme, added his thanks to the donors.

He also took the opportunit­y to urge all communitie­s to stand together against domestic violence.

Kenton community leader Mike Konaha said this kind of collaborat­ion was an excellent example of the way partnershi­ps between the community and the police were working in Kentonon-Sea.
