Talk of the Town

KENTON GOLF BROTHERHOOD

-

Tuesday October 25

Despite somewhat negative weather forecasts, 23 players entered the morning draw to play an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-tocount with bonus points available for the entire covey having 3 points or better or a “sandy”, a par from a bunker.

A stiff westerly wind persisted during the morning and sporadic showers interspersed with overhead thunder saw the field all finish even though dampness was prevalent in outer garments.

Steve Kennedy, Russell Warren, Andy Manson and Andy Stembridge were joint winners with Tony Halse, Jan Immelman, Jimmy van Rensburg and Mike Stadler on 81 points.

Phillip van der Byl, Peter Longhurst and John Dell (70+5) shared the Hamer & Sukkel with Nick Oosthuizen, Arnie Schultz, Eugene Erasmus and Paul Fryer as both coveys contrived their way to 75 points, reflecting playing conditions with the wind, rain and the course still set up for the past weekend’s Kelly.

Friday October 8

Early morning rain and grey skies saw 29 players drawn in three 3balls and five 4-balls to compete in a Stableford Alliance 2-scoresto-count format with a bonus point available for an entire covey getting three points or better on the same hole or a “sandy”, a par from a bunker.

Peter Reed, John Crandon, Martinus Scheepers and Derek

Sinclair combined well to post the winning score of 85 points.

Andy Manson, Donald McGarvie and Brian Reid (78+5) tied with Tony Halse, Pat Halse, Mike Stadler and Brian Shirley for second place on 83 points.

Neil Laundar, Barrie Brady, Anita de Bruin and Fanie Smit claimed sole ownership of the Hamer & Sukkel for their return of 71 points.

The only birdie of the day on a par three was by Paul Fryer on the 6th to capture the carryover 2club pool for his covey.

Tony Halse was the outstanding individual player on the day, posting a 70 nett.
