Get set for Amanzi Challenge thrills

Part 1 of the Royal St Andrews Amanzi Challenge 2022 takes place this weekend.

We will see the return of inflatable boat races, surfing competitio­n, bodyboardi­ng competitio­n, tennis, and croquet.

The Inflatable Boat Races kick off at 9am on Saturday 12 November at East Beach. We can expect between 15-20 boats in this event, as the boats take on eliminatio­n heats crashing through the surf.

The final heat of this section will be completed at about 2pm, depending on sea conditions.

At the same time, the Royal St Andrews Amanzi Challenge Surfing Cup will be taking place on West Beach from 9am to 1pm.

Not to be outdone, an exciting round robin Tennis tournament will take place at the Port Alfred Tennis Courts along the Kowie River banks from 9am – 7pm.

Everyone welcome to come and watch. Next door to the tennis courts, an exciting croquet competitio­n will take place.

Sunday 13 November sees the inflatable­s take on the Barnacles Challenge, starting at Putt Bridge, hurtling down the Kowie River, through the mouth and completing a circuit out in the ocean before returning to the River mouth.

This event is due to start at 8am and ends at about 11am.

Expect thrills and spills as the boats go through the mouth.

At the same time, the Royal St Andrews Hotel Body Boarding Challenge will take place on West Beach and the finals of the croquet competitio­n at the Port Alfred Bowling and Croquet Club.

The Rotary Club of Port Alfred will be selling their famous kudu burgers at East Beach during the Royal St Andrews Hotel Amanzi Challenge on Saturday and Sunday. —
