U3A (University of the 3rd Age) Don Powis Hall, Settlers Park, Port Alfred: Bronwyn Allan will present an illustrate­d talk on “The life and works of Stephen Sondheim”, the US composer and lyricist. Sondheim was credited for having reinvented the US musical with shows that tackled unexpected themes ranging far beyond the genre's traditiona­l subjects. His shows addressed darker elements of the human experience, with songs often tinged with ambivalenc­e about various aspects of life. All welcome. Meeting fee: R5 (members), R10 (visitors).
