ALEXANDRIA GOLF CLUB

Last Wednesday a bonus bogey format was played, with outstanding golf being played by Rendo Nell, Brad van der Riet and Hilton Delport, finishing on +7 for the round. Second were Leon Naude, Jan Stark and Dave Woods on +3. Hilton was the best individual score on the day with +3.

On Saturday the Club played host to the H Venter Plant Hire Golf Day held in support of the ACVV Huis Diaz Retirement Home in Alexandria. The day was very well supported by both players and sponsors and a meaningful contribution was raised on the day. The scramble drive betterball format saw some really good scoring being achieved on a beautiful summer’s day. Third on the day was the father and son combination of Binky and Ivan-John du Preez on 46 Stableford points, second was Trevor Hyson and Owen Putzier on 48 points and the winners were Christo Bosman and Johan Engelbrecht on an excellent 51 points. Closest to the pin on the 3rd was Dave Nicoll, on the 8th was Juandre van Zyl and the longest drive was claimed by Neil van der Linde. A big screen ensured that everyone was able to watch the Bokke in action and all in all it was a very successful day. Thanks to all those who played, were involved in the organisation or sponsored the day.

KENTON GOLF BROTHERHOOD Tuesday 1st November 2022

Grey skies, once more, with a fresh easterly wind and a nip in the air saw 29 golfers at the early morning draw to compete in an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-to-count with a bonus point available for the entire covey all having 3 points or better or a “sandy”, a par from a bunker.

Tony Halse, Dave Curran, Bryan Robinson and Paul Fryer found conditions to their liking as they posted 88 points to run out winners on the day. Second place were the 3ball of Peter Reed, Neil Loundar and Eugene Erasmus, with no close competitors, on 85 (80+5) points.

The dreaded trophy eventually came to rest with Peter Longhurst, Derick van Harmelen, Jimmy van Rensburg and John Abbott for their return of 75 points.

Eugene Erasmus and Peter Longhurst both birdied the par three 8th. The 2club pool was however captured by Michael Collins, for his covey, with his birdie on the par three 6th. Indicative of playing conditions, with the rough challenging and minimal run on the fairways, no individual scoring highlights were noted.

Friday 4th November 2022

Concern about possible inclement weather saw 30 golfers report for the start to be drawn in ten 3-balls to play an Alliance Stableford 2-scores-tocount on the par fours and fives and 3to-count on the par threes. Bonus points were available for the covey all succeeding with 3 points or better or a “sandy”, a par from a bunker. Tony Halse, Pat Halse and Maureen McGarvierevelled in the conditions to post 95 points and leave all in their wake coming into first place on 95 points. Derick van Harmelen, Rick Hill and Donald McGarvie were second on an excellent 91 points.

Jimmy van Rensburg, Henry Ellis and Michael Collins posted 75 points to ensure no competition for the Hamer & Sukkel.

Mike Krige birdied the par three 13th but Pat Halse with birdies on both the par three 6th and par three 8th seized the 2-club pool for her covey, to take all financial rewards on offer for the same 3-ball.

Donald McGarvie and Pat Halse shot solid individual 70 netts; Tony Halse was even better with a 68 nett; Neil Loundar upped the ante with a 66 nett; but Mike Krige was player of the day with his 65 nett.
