Station Hill Community 10s
Station Hill recently had an eventful sports day at Station Hill Sports Field, with each area forming a rugby or netball team to compete in the annual Kowie10s Tournament.
Laan Lions were crowned netball champions after defeating Kwaggas 4-3. In the men’s rugby games, Kwaggas became champions following a 7-5 win against Plotmeisters.
Kowie United president Denzil Burger said the Kowie10s tournament was played every year between five teams from the Port Alfred area: Kwaggas, Laan lions, Plotmysters, The Rebels and Slagters.
“It is the second consecutive time in a row winning this tournament,” he said.
“This was a very well planned tournament, and the organising committee needs a pat on the back for their hard work,” Burger said. “Thanks to all the sponsors who contribute to make this special for our community at large, and for the spectators who supported this day: you guys are amazing. And to our match officials, without you guys the day would never been possible. We thank you all and see you guys again next year at the Kowie10s!”
Burger said the date for next year’s tournament would be communicated once it was finalised.
Silvanus Welcome, from
Rebels, said, “The Rebels with our slogan ‘Rebels of niks’ would like to thank the business community of Port Alfred and individuals who financially contributed to ensure that the clubs were ready for the day.”
The sponsors were Buco, Kowie Hardware, Ice Cube, Spar, Pick n Pay Port Alfred, Port Alfred Butchery, Froz-Hen and MVR Builders.
