Annual Buco Golf Day marks 30 years
The annual Buco Golf Day was held at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club (RPAGC) on Friday November 18 with 138 players taking part in what was a tremendously successful event for all involved, including Sunshine Coast Hospice and Child Welfare.
The prizegiving saw a packed RPAGC with many prizes handed out to the winners of the day thanks to the many sponsors involved. The golf day would also not have been possible without Suzaan Esterhuyzen and Bianca Badenhorst who organised the event. The décor was by Geraldine Avis.
Buco’s regional operations manager for the Eastern Cape, Marius Schmidt, welcomed everyone to the prizegiving, thanking all the sponsors of the 14th year of the Buco Golf Day. Schmidt thanked the newly appointed manager of the RPAGC, Ken Brook, as well as Robbie Alberts, the Bearded Butcher of Port Alfred Butchery, and Kerryn Watson of Serenity Day Spa for their contributions to the event.
Juan Pretorius was the master of ceremonies for the evening and gave thanks to sponsor Eco Tanks who had donated R20,000 worth of prizes to the event.
“Charlie Poulton, ex-captain of the golf club, arrived here 30 years ago and noticed there were no individual medal competitions played at the golf club. He approached the late Dave Young from the then D&A Timbers to sponsor the competition. Dave had no problem sponsoring the day. It became known as the Buco monthly mug and is still running today. This is 30 years of sponsorship, a
massive achievement,” said Pretorius.
The first-place winners were Pierre Schoeman, Willem de Villiers, Andre MacDonald and Ross Hamilton with 106 points in the 4-ball alliance. The longest drive winner in the men’s section was Gideon Delport and in the ladies section it was Shirley Heny.
The event also saw an auction conducted by Peter Charter in aid of Sunshine Coast Hospice and Child Welfare in which various prizes were auctioned to support these worthwhile organisations.
Buco Port Alfred manager Gerhard van der Walt and Buco Kenton-on-Sea’s Ockie Goosen were there to hand over the prizes
and thank the sponsors. These included Academy Brushware, Addis, Proton Afrisam, Agrinet, BBL, Bester Barrows, Buco Arcadia, Brands 4 Africa, Cape Gate, Gavcon, Cemza, Duram, Dynamic Artistic Solutions, Eagle Roofing, Eco Tanks, Eureka, Flash, Gas Centre, Grinding Techniques, HAL Fennel, Hamiltons, Hellerman, Electrolux, Lixil, Mackie, Makana Brick, Marley Pipes, Matus, Mitek, Mylaw Chemical Coatings, NSS Fasteners, PE Boards, Permoseal, PG Bison, Plascon, Powafix, Raiel, Ryobi, Safari, Safetop, Sheetrite, Spectrum, Supamix, Swartland, Thesens, Tile Magic, Totai Gas, Lasher Tools, Vermont and WC Youngman.
