Charity Golf Day swells coffers

Busy time for Grahamstown Round Table 11

- GREG WILMOT Greg Wilmot is the chair of Grahamstown Round Table 11.

On October 21, Grahamstown Round Table 11 (RT11) held the annual Charity Golf Day at the Belmont Golf Club in Makhanda.

With seventeen 4-balls teeing off under a shotgun start, the fun format of a scramble drive, paid-for Mulligans, and 4Ball Alliance made for a festive and well-run day.

Twenty-seven businesses contributed towards the day through donations, tee and green sponsorships as well as cash and prize donations. This year, the largest sponsor of the charitable event came from Duraflex Liquid Rubber, courtesy of Royden Horne, who donated R10,000.

Apart from a generous host of prizes for the first seven places, the charity auction is always a big drawcard for the event with items ranging from Cloud Nine mattresses, fibre installation and hosting, getaways, a six-person game drive at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve and much more.

It was an excellent event that in total netted over R48,250 for the Makhanda community. Congratulations to the winning team on the day which comprised of Deon van Deventer, Annelize Connan, JoosVos, and Leon Claasen.

On Saturday November 6 RT11Tablers got out on the trails of Mountain Drive as they ran two important waterpoints on the 15km and 30km routes of the Oldenburgia Trail run hosted by Get-Out-and-Run.

What started as very wet and miserable weather quickly changed into a hot day out on the trail for the runners and Tablers alike. This is a fantastically beautiful route and an excellent event that RT11 will definitely be partnering with again.

Lastly, RT11 hosted the EP Area Spring Conference on

November 18 and 19, with Tablers from across the Eastern Cape and as far as Secunda, descending on Makhanda where positive engagements, robust debate and exciting plans for the future across the Eastern Cape is driving Round Table as the premium young men’s service organisation.

However, before the important meeting on the Saturday morning, a fun evening of Nite Bowls was held at the Grahamstown Bowls Club where a big fire, tasty braai, and wonderful fellowship kept all the Tablers, guests, and families warm. The Area congress was officially opened by former RTSA president and Area chair Fabrizio Altichero (AK210 / RT11), with former RTSA president Alan Malan (AK210) fulfilling the sergeant’s duties.

It has been a great year for RT11 as funds raised from the Golf Day have already been earmarked to support the Makana Vet Clinic, SPCA, and water tank installations at Andrew Moyake High School. Thank you for helping us drive #impactfulchange in our community.
