Called to be effective as the salt of the earth

- Pastor Theo Snyman Quotations from NIV

Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?

“It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Salt has some special qualities.

Being the salt of the earth, these qualities should be found in the life of a Christian as well.

Adding a pinch of salt to food brings out its flavour, and makes it more enjoyable and palatable.

The fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control, has a direct affect upon family, friends and society as a whole.

Many have applied a saline solution to eyes, mouth or wounds, for salt has a healing quality to it.

The ministry of the Church has been a source of healing, comfort, encouragement and peace to many. The prayers of the saints do not go unheeded, and the Word of God is still the truth that sets us free.

Salt is also a preservative. Without salt, meat hung out to dry would never have become the biltong we love so much.

The stench of rotten meat would have filled the air. Moral principles taught by the Church should have a profound influence on the decaying moral standards of the world.

This should be by example, in love, and not by being judgmental.

The obvious place to begin instilling these principles is with the young, for Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

It has rightly been said actions speak louder than words!

It is possible that salt loses its saltiness, and as a result, becomes ineffective. If you are a child of God, you are the salt of the earth.
