SA Schools Boat Race will showcase country’s rising talent
St Andrew’s College will host the 22nd annual South African Schools Boat Race in Port Alfred on December 9 and 10.
Sponsored by Standard Bank, the South African Schools Rowing Union event showcases the best of SA schools rowing as the crews contend against each other as well as the challenge of the Kowie River.
Boys’ and girls’ rowing crews from schools across SA will be competing.
The regatta will include two events: a Junior Men’s Eights race over 5.4km and a Junior Women’s Quads race over 4km.
The time trials will be held on the afternoon of Friday December 9. The finals will be held on the Saturday. These events are open to all schoolboys’ first eight and girls’ first quad crews (excluding current matrics).
There is a dedicated spectator zone at the Port Alfred Ski-Boat Club, right at the race finish line. Spectators will be able to view racing down the length of the course on TV screens in the Upper Deck Restaurant and will have a great vantage point at the finish line to cheer their crews home.
St Andrew’s College Rowing Club welcomes staff, parents and spectators to watch the racing from the spectator zone.
The Boat Race will be livestreamed by SuperSport Schools. The links will be sent out closer to the time.
