Celebrate a milestone 50 years with In-Step

In-Step, the famous surf boot designed by Andy Thuysman, turns 50 this year, and will once again feature at the Bathurst Agricultural Show, along with their full range of shoes handcrafted from wildebeest leather, and their colourful range of sheepskin slippers.

The family-owned business has been going since 1974.

Thuysman started out making shoes for the surfers on the beaches of Jeffreys Bay.

He would trace the leather to the shape of their feet individually, cut it out and sew them up by hand!

“Still today, our customers will say that our shoes feel like they were made for their feet,” Thuysman said.

To mark this milestone business birthday, Thuysman decided to redesign the original sheepskin slipper.

“What makes these classic sheepskin slippers different is the heel made from the same sturdy leather we use for the heel on our sheepskin surfer boots. The reworked whale tail sheepskin slipper is sturdy enough for daily use for many moons,” Thuysman said.

The full sheepskin inner and suede leather upper with 6mm rubber is a perfect combination that should travel with you wherever you go.

Due to demand, a new, shorter version of the iconic In Step Surfer Boot with a leather trim is now available in the same colour range as the standard boot black, choc brown, forest green and ocean blue. The suede version is available in tan, choc brown and black.

The short boot is also more flattering to different leg shapes and easier to slip on, making it the perfect boot for everyday wear.

“For decades this boot has built up a reputation for a longlasting product that brings super comfort during winter. People who own them know they can’t wait for a cold day to wear them,” Thuysman said.

The inner sole is 100% leather and creates a mould of your footprint from wearing the boot over time. The unique outside leather heel designed by Thuysman, sets this product aside from the everyday commercial fit. The sole is made from durable thermoplastic rubber, that can be replaced in-house after extensive wear.
