Entries open for 2015 Ranger Odyssey
Ford’s 2015 Ranger Odyssey has been officially launched, with entries now open for those seeking an action-packed adventure of a lifetime.
The third edition of the annual Ranger Odyssey will see a total of 20 contestants from around Africa navigating through the extremely challenging north-western region of Namibia on a 12-day expedition that will push each person to the limit.
Following last year’s exploration of the Kaokoland in the far north-east corner of Namibia, the new route for 2015 heads north-west and traverses the Damaraland region.
The adventure starts off at Spitzkoppe and travels through Palmwag, Khuwarib and the barren and unforgiving Desolation Trail that follows the Huab River to Desolation Valley.
Along with tackling some extreme off-roading – from desert plains to soft river beds and punishing rock trails – the contestants will witness some of the region’s most breathtaking sights. These include a crater in Palmwag that is a Unesco heritage site, along with Brandberg which happens to be Namibia’s highest mountain at over 2 600m.
While the life-changing experience is an exceptional prize in itself, there’s also the allure of the grand prize, which includes the use of an Odyssey-spec Ranger for a year, along with R5 000 worth of fuel per month.
It begins with the call-to-entry – and those interested in participating are required to register online at www.rangerodyssey.com by the closing date of May 24 for South Africa and neighbouring countries, and May 15 for Angola, Nigeria, Mozambique and Ivory Coast. – Own correspondent
