AmaZulu looking for United double

On the last occasion AmaZulu faced SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Usuthu left as fan favourites, but this time popularity is the last thing on the mind of AmaZulu coach Steve Barker.

Though Barker did welcome the 5-2 victory in the pair’s last meeting, he hoped a hungry Usuthu team could topple Matsatsantsa a Pitori again at Moses Mabhida Stadium this evening.

“We need the results more than them and I am sure it is going to be a battle. We have to collect maximum points in all the remaining games,” Barker said.

“Our previous result against SuperSport does count, but we don’t want to rely on that.”

Gordon Igesund’s men have been on a downward spiral, with most of their recent results not going their way. The Tshwane side have failed to win any of their last four games in all competitions, including a last-minute 2-1 loss to Ajax Cape Town in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup and a 4-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in their last league outing.

“We have a job to do and that job includes motivating ourselves and coming out with maximum points,” Barker said.

“We are aware of our situation and the onus lies on all of us to make sure we give 100%. We managed to get a good result in our last meeting with SuperSport and what we have to do now is carry that forward.”
