DA has no credible policy to offer the country

-

Musi Maimane, if elected, will lead a party that offers nothing, writes Sethakgi MaComms Kgomo

The brouhaha around the virtual certainty that Mmusi Maimane will be elected to lead the Democratic Alliance needs to be understood for what it is. It is more symbolic than substantive.

I don’t believe a black leader of the DA will automatically transform that party if the current white leadership still believes in white supremacy and protecting white privileges.

This is a party that will at no stage pronounce itself directly on the land question, because it wouldn’t afford to alienate conservative whites who mostly still hold onto the land forcefully taken from indigenous black people.

The same DA has had a contradictory position on the policies of affirmative action and the BBBEE.

The reason for this is simply that the party fears eroding its power by alienating its conservative white electorates should it give a clear policy position on transformation of South Africa.

Their dilemma is that while they desperately want a black vote to improve their electoral fortunes in the coming elections, it has a white constituency which it will need to please at all times.

The DA’s policy has to date failed to present a viable alternative to the ANC’s policy trajectory.

The DA expends its energy in criticising the ANC and its president without presenting a coherent and convincing governing blue print parallel to the ANC’s. Any intelligent voter will easily discern that the DA has nothing to offer South Africa. Cliff Saunders, I agree with you with everything I have got. Because I love sport, I would like to see and hear nothing more about quota systems. Best man/ woman for the job. GE ANC’s eThekwini congress abandoned once again. And this party runs the country? No wonder it is in absolute chaos with these “Mamparas in Charge”. Thomas Boxing is about two guys beating each other up. I prefer watching cricket. Cricket Fan
