Awesome Gleneagles soars to Guineas victory

-

Aidan O’Brien continued his dominance of the Qipco 2000 Guineas as Gleneagles provided the master of Ballydoyle with a magical seventh win in the race and a first for jockey Ryan Moore.

The son of Galileo had an impressive two-year-old season finishing first past the post in five of his six starts, the only blips coming in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp when the stewards demoted him to second for interference and when beaten into fourth on his debut last June.

Despite the addition of a false running rail and moving the stalls from the centre of the track to the stands’ rail, the field still split in to two groups, those in the centre led by Richard Hannon’s Kool Kompany, and Home Of The Brave leading the group on the rail which included Gleneagles.

As the race reached its crescendo, Moore made his move on the 4-1 favourite.

He burst past his rivals and edging closer to the front.

When Gleneagles finally emerged from the pack it was all over as none of his 17 rivals could live with his blistering pace.

Clear in the final 200m, Gleneagles went on to score an emphatic 2.25-length victory with the Andre Fabre-trained Territories finishing second and Ivawood in third. –
