Kempton Park man shot dead in alleged road-rage incident

-

A man was shot and killed in yet another apparent road-rage incident in Bonaero Park, Kempton Park, on the East Rand yesterday morning.

Kempton Park police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali said two motorists were allegedly engaged in an argument on the corner of Carp and Daeraad streets yesterday morning.

During the argument, one motorist allegedly fired a shot, fatally wounding the other driver, Mtshali said.

The suspect, 45, was arrested on the scene and will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court soon facing a murder charge.

In January, a BMW X5 driver was accused of causing an accident in Kempton Park in a suspected road-rage incident that resulted in three people sustaining injuries. The X5 driver allegedly drove a Hyundai Accent off the R21 North, near Olifantsfontein, in anger before driving back on to the road.

According to emergency services Emer-G-Med, the Hyundai then rolled and hit a Chevy. One person was taken to hospital with a suspected broken foot, while two others were taken to hospital by family members.

In 2014, motorcyclist Douglas Pearce was shot dead on Malibongwe Drive in an alleged road-rage incident. Meekahaetele Motoau Masooa, 43, was arrested and has been charged with murder. He said he acted in self-defence.

In another incident during 2014 which was caught on video, a Porsche driver got out of his vehicle and started attacking another driver in Fourways. The driver, Gregory Kleinhentz, was arrested and charged with assault and malicious damage to property.

In the road-rage video which went viral, Kleinhentz can be seen kicking the VW’s door and side mirror and later snatching the motorist’s car keys and throwing them away.

E-blockwatch members who fi lmed the incident said the Jetta driver hooted at the Porsche after that car’s passenger threw something at them.

“The Porsche driver proceeded to swerve in and out in front of the other car until coming to a stop at the next robot where the passenger got out and started to kick and bash the other car’s door and side mirror.” – Caxton News Service
