Sprint into running for chance to live it up at Scottsvill­e

One of South Africa’s top horseracin­g events and the only one featuring four Grade 1 races in one day received a major boost with Tsogo Sun adding its name and prestige to the event with the Tsogo Sun Sprint, scheduled for Scottsvill­e Race Course in Pietermari­tzburg on May 23.

First run in 1962, South Africa’s oldest, biggest and richest sprint, previously known as the Golden Horse Sprint, is one of the six top race days held annually in South Africa and is this year offering more than R3 million in prize money.

The four Grade 1 sprint races – races with a field of elite horses from around South Africa and offering 1 200m of speed, power and skill – include the Tsogo Sun Sprint, an open race for fillies and geldings with a top prize of R1 million; the Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion, a race for two-year-old geldings with a prize of R600 000; City of Pietermari­tzburg Filly Sprint, for fillies with a prize of R600 000; and the Allan Robertson Championsh­ip for two-year-old fillies with a prize of R600 000; as well as One lucky “City” reader and his/her partner can win accommodat­ion for the race weekend (Friday and Saturday night) at Southern Sun in Pietermari­tzburg, including dinner on both nights. The prize includes VIP tent entrance/ experience during the races on Saturday, as well as entrance to the a erparty. The prize excludes flights/travel and transfers.
