Oval track racing spectacle at Mahem

Tarred oval racing will be alive, well and varied in Gauteng this Saturday.

The Mahem Raceway in Pretoria will offer patrons a full programme of tin-top and open-wheeler spectacle, headed by races for V8 Sprint Cars. There will also be events for Stock Rods, 1660cc Modified Saloon Cars, Pinto Saloons, an Open Class and 60cc Ninja karts.

The venue gates will open at noon with practice sessions for all categories during the afternoon. Racing proper will commence at 6pm. Food and drink will be on sale or you can take your own, with parking free, plentiful and patrolled. Miss Commonweal­th finalist Lucinda du Plessis will be present, as the circuit will assist her in collecting funds for the Pink Drive fight against breast cancer this year.

The Ultimate Raceway in the Vereenigin­g Showground­s will host a huge speed extravagan­za, with 11 categories of racing to face the starter. Topping the show will be races for Thunder V8 Sprint Cars, with about a dozen of the wild, 450 kW vehicles in action.

Also in action will be Rotary Midgets, Formula 2 Midgets, 1600cc Stock Rods, 1660cc Modified Saloons, 125cc Karts, V8 Lexus Class, Two-litre Pinto Saloons, Two-litre Modified Saloons, Super Saloons and Ninja karts.

Admission will cost R50 per adult and R20 per child between six and 12 years old. The venue will be open from 8am, with pracice during the day.
