Build your Summer body with the help from Professional Trainers.

Getting into shape and staying in shape has its challenges and complexities, one needs every bit of help to stay on track and ahead of the pack. Finding a personal trainer that is as determined as you are to reach your dream body is also among the pressures which come with staying fit and healthy.

Finding your way in a gym could be overwhelming, however with the assistance from a personal trainer, the battle against weight gain is already half won.

Meet two trainers who pride themselves in promoting a healthy lifestyle, both digitally and physically.

1. Wardah Hartley

Hartley is a TV sports anchor by day and a Switch Playground instructor in her spare time.

Losing 15 kilos and embracing a healthier lifestyle a few years ago, she was determined to help others transform their bodies and health. She does this through her fitness and wellness blog – www. fabufit.co.za – and by motivating those who attend Switch Playground classes in Lonehill, Johannesburg. She was introduced to the concept when it first opened in Cape Town by the creator, Steve Uria, who also played a pivotal role in helping her transform her body. Through these two avenues, Hartley has been able to help scores of people embrace a healthier happier life. Her career did not start in fitness but through her first love: broadcast journalism. Hartley has recently landed her own show on CliffCentral.com called Blogger Diaries because of her fitness blog. The show showcases top South African bloggers, while discussing ways to improve blogs, as well as the latest technology to use.

“The truth is, you cannot out-train bad eating habits,” says the fitness blogger, “Rather cut out simple sugars (refined sugar, fizzy drinks, fruit juices and bad carbs – white bread, pasta, potatoes, and white rice). Focus on eating lots of green vegetables, sweet potato, brown rice and whole-wheat pasta. Good fats actually help you lose weight, so eat avocado (portion control though), olive oil, coconut oil, nuts (again manage portions), and fatty fish such as salmon. Drink loads of water every day. It’ll speed up your metabolism.”

2. Bonginkosi Ndima Born in Eshowe, a small town in the north of KwaZulu-Natal in 1984, Ndima grew up in a liberal and open-minded family. His school years were spent at Sunnydale High, and after matric he went on to pursue further studies in video technology at the Durban University of Technology, graduating in 2007. He then moved to Johannesburg to start his profession, where he was offered a job as online video editor. Bongs, as his clients call him, describes himself as down-to-earth, smart and very adventurous. “I’m always up for the challenge. I like to initiate things. I can be shy sometimes, but when I am comfortable I talk a lot and just enjoy having good company, my friends and family around me.” His love for keeping fit and competitiveness leads him to enter season 3 of Nestle’s Bar One Manhunt show. In a nail-biting finale aired on SABC1 in October 2013, Bonginkosi was named as the runner-up of the 25-hour endurance reality show.

But he was never going to stop there. Keeping active is his obsession: he goes to gym five times a week, hikes, swims and enjoys long-distance running, especially with his Nike – We Run Rosebank team. His longest distance covered in a competition was 21km, with his recent run being the Etana DareDevil Run in aid of cancer.

Shortly after his reality TV stint, Bonginkosi joined one of SA’s leading commercial gyms as personal trainer.

There he learned vast information and got to hone his skills and managed to qualify with a diploma in fitness.

In March he established Supreme Fitness, which caters for a lot of different aspects within the fitness genre.

“I do one-on-one training for everyone. This also includes moms-tobe and can be either home-based or outdoors. I also do group training, bootcamp style, compound training and crossfit, across all ages and gender.”

When asked about famous people he has trained, Ndima says: “The most beautiful thing about this line of work is that it exposes you to lot of people, from all different walks of life.

“I have worked with so many people and big names but due to privacy issues I will only mention the few who I know they wouldn’t mind me doing this: Bongani Bingwa (TV presenter, Carte Blanche) Lulu Mthimkhulu (PR guru), Linda Moeketsi (PR guru and entrepreneur) and Sthembiso “SK” Khoza (The Queen lead actor and presenter).
