Coach Kjell welcomes the rest

Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret (below) is happy that he has some time prepare for the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The new Buccaneers coach began his tenure in the Absa Premiership last weekend, earning a point in a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium. He can now focus solely on Amakhosi, as Pirates do not have a midweek fixture.

“I have a lot of time this week. We have a very good team of analyists, we will sit down and watch their previous games but we will focus more on what we have been doing and what we can probably do better against them (Chiefs)” said Jonevret.

Ahead of the derby, Jonevret adds that he is content with the squad but wants to work on some tactical aspects within the team.

“I am happy with a lot of things at the moment; I thought our defence was okay, but I want better fluency when we attack.”

With the team going 10 games without a win, he is adamant they will return to winning ways in no time. And he adds that they could do that with the help of the supporters, because they play a huge role in terms of the players’ performances. Pirates should contribute to a packed FNB Stadium on Saturday.

“I am looking forward to seeing our fantastic supporters. I have seen them on TV supporting the team, and today I don’t think they were too happy with the 1-1 draw because they are just like us, they also want to win.

“They are an important group of people to us because they will help us win games. They just have to be patient with us, we will be back,” he concluded.

Going into this weekend’s fixture against Amakhosi, Bucs are 10th with 21 points from 18 matches. As it stands, they face a battle to finish in the top eight at the end of the season.
