Whisky Live season is upon South Africa – and it’s time to explore some of SA’s leading brands.

Sco ish Leader Signature

Scottish Leader Signature is a distinctive whisky with down-to-earth appeal but beautifully refined. Launched in 2015, Signature is a special and sophisticated blend. The addition of Scottish island malts gives it a signature hint of Hebridean smokiness. You can pick up a bottle for around R225. Nose: Rich and fruity with a peaty aroma. Also expect oak, leather and chocolate. Taste: There’s some spice like pepper, as well as a zesty orange and honey and a touch of smokiness. Finish: Spicy, long and silky.

Bunnahabhain 12-year-old

Made from unchilled-filtered malts Bunnahabhain remains a unique experience. It’s a whisky that can easily sway non-whisky drinkers thanks to it’s refined taste and sweetness. Expect to pay anything from R400 for a bottle. Nose: Fresh and smokey. Taste: Expect some fruit and nuts and a delectable sweetness. Finish: Rich and full-bodied – expect it to linger.

The nose offering a fresh and aromatic experience with a subtle whiff of smoke floating through the air. The taste starts with a light fruit and nut appeal that leads to a spectacular malty sweetness, finishing into a beautifully rich full-bodied, lingering experience.
