‘Complacency could cost us’

Chippa United midfielder Sandile Zuke has cautioned his teammates against underestimating National First Division opponents Witbank Spurs ahead of tonight’s Nedbank Cup last-32 clash set for 7.30pm at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Zuke said teams from lower divisions always have a point to prove when playing against Premiership sides and called on the Chilli Boys to avoid the fate which befell Ajax Cape Town and Cape Town City who lost to minnows at the weekend.

“Teams from the lower leagues redouble their efforts against Premiership sides,” said Zuke.

He said winning the Nedbank Cup would be a good signal of the Chilli Boys’ intentions.

“It is an important game and we must do all we can to proceed to the next round. We want to win every game and that is always our intention.”

In Siyavutha, Chippa have formidable opponents who boast a mixture of players with Premiership experience and skilful youngsters. Spurs have two former Chilli Boys in Joshua Sauls and Vusi Mthimkhulu.

They are not the only Premiership team who have a tough task against lower division teams as Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United and Platinum Stars also have dates with NFD sides this evening.

The Clever Boys are away to Cape Town All Stars, while Dikwena play AmaZulu. Defending champions SuperSport United face NFD form team Royal Eagles.
