Extreme Fest’s exotic charm

EXTREME: FERRARIS, MCLARENS AMONG THE MAKES FEATURING IN THE ZWARTKOPS SPECTACLE

Supercars set to battle it out for top honours at the festival’s main event.

This year’s Extreme Festival will kick off at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on Tuesday. Heading up the event’s offerings will be two races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, with a variety of quick and exotic machinery taking to the tarmac.

Front runners should include Dino Scribante (Liqui Moly Porsche 997T), Franco Scribante (Ferrari 430 GT3) , Leeroy Poulter (Mclaren 650GT), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430), Gianni Giannoccar­o (G&H Transport BMW 1MGT), Kishoor Pitamber (Siris BMW 335 Turbo), Ricky Giannoccar­o (G&H Transport BMW M3 GTR), Dawie Olivier (G&H Transport BMW M3) and Franco di Matteo (Deltec Alfa GT).

Some 30 contenders should face the starter in the Comsol VW Challenge races, led by people like Wayne Masters (Performanc­e Masters Polo), Stiaan Kriel (N4 Autocraft Polo), Waldie Meintjes (Marty’s Polo), James Hurley (Starter Pack Polo), Iain Pepper (Campos Transport Polo) and Gavin Ross (Norbrake Polo).

Top contenders in the autObarn Superhatch races should include Brett Garland (autObarn Honda Civic), Zane van Zyl (Credit Guarantee Golf), Alex Marques (Ace Auto Polo), André Dannhauser (Pro Auto Opel Corsa), Mel Spurr (Wealth Ave AKA Opel Corsa), Trevor Stringer (Citrine Designs Peugeot 206) and Robyn Kruger (Kalex Ford KA).

The 111 Sport and Saloon Car races will see an entry of more than 30 cars.

Pre-event favourites should be people like Rory Eland (Dialogic VW Polo), Rui Campos (BMW 328i), Jannie van Rooyen (VW Scirocco), George Eysselein (Technicon BMW 328i), Louis Cloete (VW Golf), Justin Gordon (3D Nutrition Honda Ballade), Danie Deysel (Honda Civic) and Phillip Meyer (Imperial Porsche 924).

The Formula Vee heats should provide ultra close racing between the likes of Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Vee), Jaco Schriks (Formula Vee), Peter Hills (Lube Fusion Vee), Greg Wilson (Reflex Solutions Vee), Lushen Ramchander (Miami Products Vee) and Byron Mitchell (Dolphin Engineerin­g Vee).

Reigning champion Sven Grune (Kawasaki ZX10R) will defend his title in the races for Red Square Kawasaki Masters Cup competitor­s. He will face challenger­s like Graeme van Breda (IVID ZX10R), Brian Bontekonin­g (Moyair ZX10R), Jaco Gous (Central Propshaft ZX10R), André van

Vollenstee (Stunt SA ZX10R), Henk Schuiling (Air Systems ZX10R) and Rodney McLachlan (Count Air ZX10R).

Top runners in the Bridgeston­e Thunderbik­e and Sub10 Superbike category include Gavin Upton (Motion Perfection Yamaha R1), Shaun Vermaak (Fourways Kawasaki ZX10), Hendrik Erasmus (E Engineerin­g BMW S1000RR), Vincent Green (Moco Transport Kawasaki ZX10R), Robin Harrison (Honda CBR), Gareth Jackson (Millys Kawasaki), Guy Didcott (CTS KTM RC8), Harry Potgieter (Green Machine BMW S10000RR) and Clifford Ogle (WHC Ducati).

Heading the Bridgeston­e Challenge entry should be riders like Kyle Tavares (Frost Tech Honda), Jarrod Letcher (Suzuki GSXR), Harry Timmermann (Adrenalin Powersport Yamaha R1), Werner Strohm (Parrot Interactiv­e Kawasaki ZX10R) and Conrad Clark (iDube Projects Kawasaki).

Practice sessions for the categories will take place on Monday.

Tuesday’s practice sessions will be run from 7am, and the racing programme will commence at 10.40am. Racing apart, the Zwartkops venue will offer a flea market, a beer garden, live entertainm­ent and a kiddies’corner, with everybody welcome to visit the pits on foot at any time.

The circuit’s Mini Moke trailer train will drive between the pit gate and the various grandstand­s.
