AWARDS: CAPE TOWN CITY CAPTAIN NETS A HAT-TRICK
Wits dominate in glittering awards night in Sandton.
It was Lebogang Manyama’s night as the Cape Town City captain scooped three awards at the Premier Soccer League’s awards at the Sandton Convention Centre last night.
The 26-year-old walked away with the biggest gong, the Footballer-of-the-Season as well as the Players’ Player-of-the-Season and Top Goalscorer. The Footballer-of-the-Season award is voted for by all 16 coaches of Premiership teams.
Manyama was one of the top and most consistent performers in the Absa Premiership as he captained the newly formed Cape Town team to the Telkom Knockout triumph and a third place finish in the league which guarantees them continental football next year as they will take part in the Caf Confederation Cup.
For the Footballer-of-the-Season Manyama was competing against Mamelodi Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana and Premiership-winning captain Thulani Hlatshwayo of Bidvest Wits.
City’s award haul continued with Aubrey Ngoma also taking home two – winning the Premiership Midfielder-of-the-Season and Telkom Knockout Player-of-the-Tournament.
Wits took home four awards with Hlatshwayo taking the Defender-of-the-Season while Gavin Hunt, Darren Keet and Phakamani Mhlambi walked away with Coach, Goalkeeper and Young Player awards.
Orlando Pirates’ Abubaker Mobara took the Nedbank Cup Player-of-the-Tournament while Siphiwe Tshabalala won the Goal-of-the-Season for his wonder goal against SuperSport United. The goal was voted for by fans on the PSL’s social media platforms. Shabba’s goal beat Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke’s overhead kick against Pirates.
