Germans staying married longer
Berlin – Marriage is proving to be an enduring feature of modern German society as the divorce rate falls to a near 25-year low, according to data released yesterday.
The number of marriages dissolved last year fell by 0.6% – or about 1 000 – to 162 397, the lowest level since 1993, the Federal Statistics Office said.
German marriages on average last for 15 years, the data indicated, the longest since German reunification 27 years ago. – DPA
