Maharaj takes a magnificent seven

- Ken Borland

The only win in the weekend’s Sunfoil Series action came in the Eastern Cape, with the Dolphins beating the Warriors by 55 runs in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

The Warriors fell short as they were bowled out for 230 in pursuit of 286 for victory.

The Warriors resumed on 172/6 yesterday morning, but spinner Keshav Maharaj (left) claimed 7/76, his career-best figures.

In Bloemfontein, the Titans settled for a draw against the Knights petered out.

Replying to the Knights’ first innings of 363, the Titans finished the third day on 210/5, but veteran batsman Henry Davids scored 95 not out to lift the visitors to 345 all out.

The Knights began the final day on 120/2, leading by 138 and wellplaced to push for a declaration and at least give themselves some chance of victory by trying to bowl out the Titans in the afternoon.

But that seemed the furthest thing from their minds as overnight batsmen Theunis de Bruyn and Keegan Petersen added 53 in 21 overs in the morning.

The Highveld Lions also did well to get a draw out of their match against the Cape Cobras in Paarl.

Replying to the daunting Cobras’ score of 574/8 declared, the Lions posted 562 thanks to 194 from Stephen Cook and 163 from Rassie van der Dussen.

Wiaan Mulder then bowled very well to take 4/25 as the Cobras were reduced to 117/4 by the end of play.
