Blooming banker in the Cape

CARRYOVERS: EVERY LOCAL PICK 6 TO KICK OFF WITH EXTRA MONEY IN THE POOL

- Jack Milner

Rose In Bloom looks hard to beat in Grade 3 Prix Du Cap at Kenilworth.

Bettors have an opportunity this weekend to cash in on Pick 6 carryovers at every local meeting from today until Monday. The estimated pool at Turffontein tomorrow is R2 million while the Kenilworth should reach R2.2 million.

Mike de Kock has a strong hand in Race 7 at Turffontein where he saddles Secret Captain and Fareeq in this MR 96 Handicap over 1600m.

Secret Captain is beautifully bred, being by Captain Al out of Mystic Spring, the dam of Rabiya, Secret Of Victoria, Spring Lilac and Bela-Bela.

Since joining the De Kock yard the grey has raced twice. His first run was on 7 January when he ran on well over 1400m at this course to finish 4.25 lengths behind Amazing Strike. His next start was over 1600m on the same course and again he ran on well to finish fourth, beaten just 1.20 lengths by Arctica.

He meets his conqueror on 1.5kg better terms and in his third run after a rest, should be able to reverse the form.

In addition, he will have Antony Delpech up and that should count in his favour. He is 1kg better off with second-placed Fareeq, who is his stable companion, and 0.5kg better off with third-placed Kings Archer. Kings Archer has been in good form and has built up a decent rapport with jockey Piere Strydom. He is not the gutsiest of horses but rarely runs a bad race and can run well from No 3 draw.

Fareeq has the benefit of No 1 draw and looked a winner at one point of the race last time but Arctica held him off.

At Kenilworth Rose In Bloom looks to be a stand-out bet and a Pick 6 banker when she lines up in the Grade 3 Vasco Prix Du Cap for fillies and mares over 1400m.

In her last five races, four of which were feature events, Rose In Bloom was beaten twice by Magical Wonderland and three times by Oh Susanna. Neither of those fillies will line up in this event and that opens the door for her to notch up a Graded win of her own. She is the best-weighted runner and is perfectly drawn at No 4.

Gavin Lerena could miss out on a winning ride at Fairview today, writes Viv Greybe. Lerena was due to ride for trainer Justin Snaith but his wife had a daughter on Wednesday and Lerena will stay home with his family.

All his rides will be taken over by Richard Fourie.

Lerena was carded to ride Razed In Black in Race 2, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m.

An indifferent Polytrack run can be overlooked as vast improvement is expected this time back on grass.
