Trainer Paul Peter has put the disappointments of Guineas Day behind him and says his stable is back on track.

The stable had a number of favourites on the day, including Majestic Mambo in the Grade 2 Guineas and Folk Dance in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas. Fort Ember was fancied to win a Pinnacle Stakes on the day but finished at the back of the field.

However, Fort Ember showed the stable was starting to turn when she finished a one-length second behind Orchid Island in Race 6 at Turffontein on Saturday.

“She still needed the run and I was very happy with her performance today,” said Peter.

“There were some problems in the stable but they are all sorted out and the horses are all working well again. Fort Ember will have one more run and then we will have a go at the Premier’s Champions Challenge.

“Majestic Mambo will be entered for the SA Classic over 1800m,” said Peter.

First entries for Classic Day, which includes three Grade 1 races – the R2-million SA Classic, the R1-million Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic and the Horse Chestnut Stakes over 1600m – close today.

With Monks Hood heading for Hong Kong, there is no chance of a Triple Crown winner this year but Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Takingthepeace will be aimed at the SA Fillies Classic and the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara.
