Amajita midfielder Jesse Donn says they don’t want to live under the shadow of the previous Amajita team and they will be looking to write their own history when the team begin their quest for the 2019 Caf Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations with a meeting against Mozambique in Beira today.

Amajita qualified for the Afcon tournament which was held in Zambia last year. They finished the competition in fourth place and earned a spot in the Under-20 Fifa World Cup in Korea the very same year.

Ahead of this game, the midfielder says he is confident they can get a good result.

“We know what is expected of us because of what the team achieved last year, it sort of sets the bar for us.

“But also, we are not going to live under their shadow, we are oour wn team, we have our talents and strength. I think going into this game we are confident we can do the job. And once we get to the World Cup, we will try to get further than they did,” said the midfielder.

“We feel privileged over the steps they already took for us, but this year we want to walk our own footsteps.”

Donn admitted he doesn’t know much about their opponents, but adds that head coach Thabo Senong has done his homework and has been working on a game plan during their training sessions.

“Coach Thabo went to watch Mozambique when they played Seychelles. So he’s been studying them a lot and our game plan is really focused on how we are going to attack and defend. I am confident about the technical team’s research and we have been implementing the strategy during our training sessions.”

The squad are expected to return to the country tomorrow and the second leg will be played at Rustenburg’s Moruleng Stadium on May 20.
