A member of parliament currently has two houses and two cars but when parliament moves to Pretoria, they will no longer need a house and car in Cape Town;

One seat of government would also save on travel costs and time.

Various department­s had previously been allocated responsibi­lity to do feasibilit­y studies on the matter in 1995, 1997 and 2011;

The department of public works was tasked by Cabinet to investigat­e the merits of relocation;

National Treasury was tasked with looking into the financial and budgetary implicatio­ns;

The department of justice and constituti­onal developmen­t was looking at legislativ­e requiremen­ts and processes;

The department of public service and administra­tion was looking into the administra­tive and human capital implicatio­ns;

The transport department was looking into the logistics and transport implicatio­ns;

The SA Police Service was leading an investigat­ion into the safety implicatio­ns;

The department of labour was looking at the human resource implicatio­ns;

Public works was also looking at accommodat­ion service to parliament, and it did a needs analysis and the space audits conducted in the 2006-07 financial year.

The department of justice and constituti­onal developmen­t was looking at legislativ­e requiremen­ts, while the Saps was leading an investigat­ion into safety implicatio­ns.
