MORENA LERABA

-

His musical background started as a shepherd from the mountains of Lesotho. Leraba fuses his homegrown traditional Famo-inspired vocals with electronic dance, hip-hop, reggae and everything in between, meshing cultures and sounds from far and wide to create a unique sonic experience.

The following are attractions any reveller should include during their day in Newtown:

The Market Photo Workshop: Situated opposite Mary Fitzgerald Square, this intimate exhibition space explores a range of experiences.

Go see Tell Tale by Lebohang Kganye, last year’s winner of the Sasol New Signatures Award. Tell

Tale is inspired by Athol Fugard’s plays The Train Driver and Road to

Mecca as well as the book Maverick by Lauren Beukes and Nechama Brodie, about Helen Martins from Nieu Bethesda in the Karoo.

In February, Kganye undertook research in Nieu Bethesda to unpack the mystery of the Owl House’s enduring mythology and the meaning of the Owl House and the Karoo for Fugard.

Sci-Bono Centre: Running until October, The Wonders of Rock Art: Lascaux and Africa exhibition at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre puts on display priceless artefacts of ancient southern African rock art and the Stone Age alongside an exact replica of the rock art of Lascaux, France.

The exact replica of those paintings is the only opportunity to view these astounding works of art. The exhibition is the only time ever that the rock art of ancient Europe will be shown alongside the rock art of South Africa.

It is a collaborative project between Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, the Gauteng department of education, the French Embassy in South Africa and the French Institute of South Africa.
