Draw gives hope to Black Leopards

GOALLESS: STARS AND COSMOS FAIL TO FIND THE NET

- Sibongiseni Gumbi

Black Leopards may not have played last night but they will be the happiest as Platinum Stars and Jomo Cosmos played to a goalless draw in a National First Division (NFD) playoffs match at Moruleng Stadium.

The result leaves Lidoda Duvha in command of the three-team mini league as they are now two and three points ahead of Ezenkosi and Dikwena.

It was, however, not for lack of trying that last night’s match ended without any goals as both clubs did, although not many clear cut chances were created.

The first half was played at a pedestrian pace as both teams looked to gauge each other.

Both, however, had a few half chances as they tried shots at goals but to no avail.

The first clear chance fell for Bongi Ntuli in the 23rd minute when he found himself unmarked in the Cosmos box with the ball at his feet. His shot was tipped over by goalkeeper King Ndlovu.

Ezenkosi got a good chance to open the scoring when Tebogo Mabula was fouled just outside the box as he tried to wrestle his way through. But from the resultant free kick Tebogo Tlolane’s shot went inches over the bar, with Dino Visser beaten.

Given an almost similar chance at the other end, Gerald Phiri hit the ball against the Cosmos wall and it went out for a corner which was wasted.

Stars went on a late surge and pinned Ezenkosi back but couldn’t unlock the defence, who were happy to get a point which keeps their chances alive.

Dikwena will now try to get their first full points when they host Black Leopards at the same venue on Saturday night. Failure to win that game will mean the end for the former Telkom Knockout champions.
