Attractive fillies at Greyville

- Ken Nicol

Australian import Deerupt has gone close in both Vaal appearances, and despite having no Polytrack form looks the best bet on today’s eight-race card of rather moderate fare at Greyville.

This two-year-old daughter of Snitzel appears in Race 3 and gets 3kg from her mostly well-tried older counterparts.

She should thrive from a good draw at Greyville, and will take a lot of catching. Worth a good bet, and can also serve as a banker in exotics.

The main threat seems likely to come from fellow juvenile Believe The Best. She makes her full racing debut, but showed up well when crossing the line third in a barrier trial.

The ‘winner’ of that trial, Temple Grafin has her own first run in Race 2, and can also be expected to go very close to victory.

Tombola is another who has to be considered. She returns from a short rest, and has no Polytrack experience, but has met good sorts when placing in all four starts, and now goes over 200m further which may well suit.

Another with a huge winning chance is Garth Puller’s Tuulikki in Race 4. Innocently Naughty may present the main danger.

Completing the quartet of good bets involving fillies is Hey Jude in Race 8.

She ground last time, and faces a particularly limited bunch of maidens.
