Johnson aims to be happy again

COACH: HOPEFULLY WE CAN DO WHAT WE DID LAST YEAR

SuperSport are still hurting from opening-day defeat.

The last time Cavin Johnson took AmaZulu to his former side SuperSport United, he was able to come back a happy man as Usuthu fought hard to take home three points after their 1-0 victory.

Johnson will hope his side will put up a similar or even better fight again this evening as they meet Matsatsantsa a Pitori at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The match is set for a 7.30pm kick-off.

“Hopefully we can do exactly what we did last year,” said Johnson. “But it is a different campaign because last season belongs to history now.

“If I could turn back the clock, then I would take that (win) again. But we are in the new season now and are not God. We have to go out there and do our best and fight again. We have to be on our toes when we face SuperSport,” said Johnson.

It could be a lot more difficult for AmaZulu in Atteridgeville this time around as SuperSport will fight like wounded tigers after their 2-0 defeat at Cape Town City in their first match.

But the Durban-based side will be high on confidence after opening on a positive note as they beat Baroka FC 1-0 and Johnson has urged his players to build on the win so they can pile on the points early on.

“All the credit for the win should go to the players. It is the start of the new season and we have a few medical problems in the changeroom. We will see what happens.

“We were happy to get the three points in our first game. We did a good job against Baroka. We made sure we stamped our authority in the game,” said the 59-year-old mentor.

Kaitano Tembo’s SuperSport did not have an answer against Benni McCarthy’s hard-running City side but there were some positives that newly appointed coach Tembo should be able to take and build on.
