Lax law enforcers facilitate crime

-

Metro police ignore it all – parking on pavements and begging in traffic, writes Tom Lambe.

It is apparent to me that if South Africa’s law enforcement agencies looked after the little problems first, then the big problems would not get so big. Let me give you a couple of examples. In Rosettenville in Johannesburg, it has become “normal” for cars in Prairie Street to park on the pavement, causing pedestrians to walk in the road! I have been watching this for days on end, and have even seen metro police vehicles drive down the road without paying any attention to the offending vehicles.

At the junction of Comaro Street and Victoria Street in Oakdene, there are people permanently standing in the traffic, begging. Again I have seen metro traffic vehicles drive straight past this obvious contravention of the local by-laws.

The vast majority of motorcycles don’t have rear registration plates! Why does the City of Joburg employ people who do not do their jobs, and what do they do all day?
