It’s All About The Bass at Flamingo

- Jack Milner

Can All About The Bass win his second race in the space of our days?

Your answer to that question will decide how you will play Race 8 at Flamingo Park today, a MR 84 Handicap over 1300m on the sand. This three-year-old son of Warm White Night has raced five times and his first four runs were at Flamingo Park.

He won comfortably on debut and followed up with a second behind stable companion Pulcheria in the Nursery at the course over 1400m. He finished second and third respectively after that over 1000m at Flamingo Park before being given his first race on the grass at the Vaal last Thursday.

He scored an impressive 0.75-length win over Topmast in a Novice Plate in which he carried 60kg. That was a very good effort as he ran against far stronger company.

What is interesting is, because that race was on the turf, his sand merit rating has not been affected and All About The Bass will receive no penalty for Thursday’s win.

What needs to be considered is this will be his fifth run in five weeks and his third in eight days. However, one sees this done regularly in the UK and those who remember the late Buddy Maroun will know he often ran sprinters three times in a week with great success.

All About The Bass will have Craig Zackey up again and will jump from barrier No 6.

Emperors Tractor was a wellbeaten second behind “good thing” Timkat last week over 1400m and looks the main threat, but is badly drawn, which could bring Imperial Gold into the picture.
