Sudan’s ‘torture kills our fighters’

-

The Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council (SLMTC) says four of its fighters captured by government forces have died in prison as a result of medical negligence and torture.

The SLM-TC spokesperson, Nurraldine Kouki, said 11 captives from the movement are facing inhumane conditions at Al Huda Prison in Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman.

“Four of our comrades were martyred so far and the last of whom, Abdel-Salam Mohamed Salih, died on August 13 as a result of medical negligence of the hostages who were injured during the battles, as well as continued torture,” he said.

The SLM-TC, in coordination with the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), headed by Minni Minnawi, fought battles against Sudanese government army militias in North and East Darfur during May 2017.

The SLM suffered significant losses during the clashes.

Referring to the deaths of the four, and 11 other captives, Kouki accused the government of carrying out “undeclared executions”, and preventing humanitarian and rights groups from visiting the captives. – ANA
