Msimanga talks tough
Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga yesterday said he will ask the council to suspend embattled city manager Moeketsi Mosola and other senior municipal officials as investigations into alleged tender irregularities intensify.
“After due consideration, I am referring the allegations of tender irregularities to council, specifically to investigate allegations of serious misconduct levelled against senior officials in accordance with the disciplinary regulations for senior managers in the Municipal Systems Act,” he said.
Msimanga said he would also ask the city council to suspend senior officials suspected of misconduct for the duration of the probe. Senior managers would be afforded the opportunity to provide the council with reasons why they should not be suspended.
Earlier this month, the main opposition in Tshwane, the ANC, called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to sign a proclamation assigning the Special Investigating Unit to investigate all mega contracts signed by the Tshwane metro, dating back to 2016.
Mosola told the media that nothing was untoward in the awarding of the contract.
