Why are Lions players shunned?
Bok coach Rassie Erasmus only picks players he worked with in the past, writes Gamiem Boomgaard
These Springbok coaches are all the same and nobody says anything about it. They do it year in and year out. Only two players from the Lions – the best South African Super Rugby team for the past three years – are in the national team.
Rassie Erasmus said he selects players because he worked with them in the past. Yes, he was in- volved at the Stormers. He says the players trained well. Of course they trained for eight weeks because they did not feature in the Super Rugby play-offs. They finished bottom of the conference.
I say it time and again, these Stormers players are picked on reputation and who they play for.
Can our so-called rugby brains, media or Saru administrators not see these things?
The Lions outscrummed, out mauled and outplayed all the Super Rugby teams. What more must these Lions players do to be selected to the Springbok team?
