Only pay taxi drivers at the end of a journey
This system would see more of them obeying the rules of the road, writes Tom Lambe from Oakdene.
In almost every industry or business, the recipient of the service renders payment to the service provider when the transaction has been provided or completed. The only exception to this condition of normal business that I can think of is the minibus taxi industry, where the passengers pay before the journey begins.
Prior to the commencement of the journey, the passengers have no idea if the driver can, in fact, even drive properly and will deliver them, in good condition, to the required destination.
The passengers of a minibus taxi greatly outnumber the driver and his “assistant” if he should have one.
Why then do the passengers pay for a service thay have not yet received? If payment to the driver is only made at the termination of the journey, and should it be that the passengers are not happy with the driver’s driving ability, they should have the right to instruct him to pull to the side of the road and allow them to depart the taxi.
This system, I feel sure, would improve the quality of taxi driver’s ability to obey the rules of the road very rapidly.
